The wings have it

Sometimes I really want to scream.
Particularly when people are so insistent that their view is the only view, and they refuse to acknowledge the comments, criticisms, arguments of others, or when they do, they fall back on the same arguments they’ve made before.
So there’s this guy (you knew this was coming) on the Book of Face who pretty much exemplifies everything that’s not me. He supports McCain and Palin, which he is more than entitled to do, but whenever someone challenges him about it, he falls back on three or four stock-standard responses that make no sense when looked at in context, namely that Obama has no experience, he’s too young, he was associated with terrorists, he has a nasty pastor (Rev. Wright) and that Palin and McCain are the ’safe choice’.
I and others have challenged him continuously on all these points, and yet he spouts them like they’re fresh and new and tasty. ‘I’m not against lefties,’ he says. ‘That’s why we have a democracy. Vote for who you want, as long as it’s the Republicans, the right choice.’ That’s a mere morsel among many many others.
Does this fool not understand that the benefits of democracy lie in its ability to change people, to challenge and defend ideas, to further the critical capacity of the social consciousness?
With an ambition to, and I quote, ‘become the next Ann Coulter’, I think not.
Until next time…
