Congrats to Marat Safin, and bad luck to both Lleyton and the Aussie cricket team. However, it was good to see an Aussie in the final of the Open after 17 years, and he did us proud. Safin just came back, found momentum and held it. And good on him, too.

I’m posting this now because of insomnia. I can’t sleep. And my entire body is aching. I have a ripper headache too. This sucks because I have to go back to school later on this morning. Bugger, eh?

Until next time…

UPDATE II: I actually managed to get a half hour or so of cycling in today. After a pretty shitty day mood-wise, I was able to unwind and take in the scenery. Hopefully this nice routine will continue for most of this year. I’ll need all the unwinding I can get. Meantime I need to fix my computer and buy some toestraps and knix.
(Cycling Details: Dist 7.4, Time 27.0, Odo 85.6)

UPDATE: Behold, if you will, the single most useless device ever manufactured in history.

I returned from holiday to Melbourne last Monday, only to find that the utility that I find most useful in the most monotonous and repetitive of household chores had been replaced by a ‘newer’, ‘fandangled’ and ‘rust-proof’ model. This thing is a downright pain in the ass. You have to ensure that there is sufficient weight on the rack proper to prevent the cutlery holder (where once the two were successfully combined in a magnificent feat of household device engineering) from tipping the whole apparatus into the sink. The plate rungs are just that little bit too vertical, so that if you’re not careful the plates will fall forward like dominoes, propelling what poor bowl or glass is up front off the bench and hurtling toward the floor. You could also fit twice as many dishes, saucepans etc on the older rack. For a night’s washup with this model, you have to wipe up three times before the end, just to fit everything on. ARG!

Now I’ve had my rant, I think I’ll go and do something slightly less infuriating.

After much hassle and self denial, etc, I decided not to take my newly serviced bike for a ride yesterday. Mainly because I sweated just adjusting my helmet. At 6:30pm yesterday it was still upwards of 30°. But anyway, maybe today. The BOM says it’s going to be overcast for most of the day, with chances of light showers. Perfect conditions for me.

Tonight, the No. 3 collides with the No. 4 in one of the most highly anticipated Australian Open finals in tennis history. It’s the first time since 1988 that an Australian has been in the Australian Open final, which is moderately ironic. But as much as I want Hewitt to win, I wouldn’t put it past Safin to just edge through. Safin is an incredible player. He’s two different people on and off the court. Off-court he’s very modest and unassuming. On-court he becomes this intense monster with incredible appeal and endless stamina. I mean, he did beat Roger Federer. But at the same time, Hewitt beat Andy Roddick. A tournament of upsets, no doubt. Let’s go Lleyton, let’s go!

Not much else is really on my mind at the moment. Apart from going back to school tomorrow, which I’m not at all looking forward to. But at the same time I really want to get back and get into it and get it over with. This year will absolutely fly.

Until next time…

Greetings after an exceedingly long time. Far, far, far too long. Blogger decided to take my blog off my Dashboard for about four weeks. To which I replied, ‘Fair enough,’ and grabbed another beer. For it was the school holidays and much was happy in the land of Binnsy. New Year’s Eve was great, though I remember very little of it. I spent a week up in the Victorian Alps, and climbed Mt Bogong, Victoria’s highest peak (I still have the remnants of blisters on my feet). I spent time with all the members of my family down in Melbourne and went for a 50km bike ride. I got back to Sydney last Monday and have been doing pretty much nothing, and trying to psyche myself into ‘Back to School’ mode. With this I am having very little success. There is still a fair bit of holiday homework I have yet to do. But hey.

I put my bike in for a service on Thursday and got it back this morning. The gearbox has not functioned properly since I got the bike five or so years ago, but now it works fine, as does everything else. So I’m happy. Unfortunately, though, the weather is in excess of 40°C, thus I am confined to my air-conditioned quarters until later this afternoon when I can roadtest my nicely tuned and cleaned and oiled bicycle.

It’s good to be back to my old blogging tricks…

Until next time…
